Another Protein Primer: How PRO7 Can Help YOU

protein powder, pro7, muscle gain, fat loss

One of the many services NUTRISHOP Chico provides is a diet analysis, free with any purchase, that examines each customer’s intake on an average day to determine what fixes can be made depending on that person’s goals. And nearly without fail, the top thing that can almost always be adjusted is the same for just about everybody- diet.
We’re talking about enough protein, of course. If there is one supplement that is a must-have for dieters, weight lifters, body builders, athletes or anybody just wanting to have a healthy body, it’s a quality, low-carb, low-calorie protein powder supplement. At NUTRISHOP, we think we have one of the best in the industry in Vitasport’s PRO7EIN SYNTHESIS, and we’ve gone over it before. But it’s such an important macronutrient that it’s definitely worth revisiting — especially as we approach the holiday season, where eating clean gets much harder.

The most very basic of all steps in any diet fix is taking care of the obvious: Slashing out the four-doughnut breakfasts, removing the words “nacho” and “cheese” from your average snack menu and eliminating dessert as a must-have food group. But right after that step comes ensuring that you’re getting enough protein, and this is a difficult step for a lot of people. However, a quality protein powder like PRO7 makes it easier.

Many people wonder how much protein is the “right” amount, and the truth is that it varies. Some schools of thought believe there is no such thing as “too much” protein, while others have exact guidelines to follow based on calculations. Realistically, the second option is better, but luckily the math isn’t too tough — for a simply healthy intake, aim for roughly one gram of dietary protein per pound of body weight every day. So if you weigh 160 pounds, you want to make sure you’re getting at least 160 grams of protein on a daily basis.

It might sound like a lot, but if you follow the guidelines set forth in NUTRISHOP owner Toby Schindelbeck’s Fat Loss Report, you already know that you’re aiming for six meals a day. At that rate, it means you’re trying to consume about 30-35 grams of protein every time you eat. Considering that can be a can of tuna, a four-egg omelet with a glass of fat-free milk, a chicken breast or a lean steak (among many other options), that shouldn’t be too hard. But to limit your calorie intake so you can still burn fat while ALSO getting the necessary protein, you almost HAVE to have a protein supplement in between meals. The combination of taste, convenience and results one gets with PRO7 cannot be beaten by any high-protein food.

It might sound daunting at first, but consider the all-around effects of protein in your diet:

  • Protein helps provide amino acids crucial to the muscle-building and repairing process.
  • More muscle (and the upkeep of it) translates directly into a higher-burning metabolism, which lets you process calories much more effectively.
  • A higher metabolism is much more capable of burning body fat and using food as energy, instead of storing it as fat.

If those weren’t enough reasons, PRO7 tastes great, and has a brand-new flavor with the long-awaited Cookies and Cream. Be sure to check out PRO7 at either Chico NUTRISHOP.

NUTRISHOP Workout of the Week: No Weights, No Problem

Need a change of pace in the gym? Maybe you’re between workout plans right now, having just ended a six-week program. Or, maybe you don’t have tons of time to dedicate to an all-out weight lifting session. No problem — we’ve got a full-body plan you can put together without lifting a single weight. This workout is all based on body-weight movements and plyometrics, and you can use both to put together an effective program.

Because you won’t be using the typical weight you’d normally use, you’ll need a bit more volume for this full-body workout. You’ll see we have two exercises per muscle group, and you’ll be using supersets to keep the pace up. For each superset, note the number of reps after each exercise, and repeat each superset three times after no more than a minute of rest.

Why You Shouldn’t Settle for the ‘Cheap’ Protein

protein powder, pro7, muscle gain, fat loss

You have a lot of options when it comes to buying protein powder supplements. But that doesn’t mean they’re all equal.

So why do we say to pick PRO7 instead of any other brand? Because very few others can boast the nutritional profile that this product can. At 34 grams of protein in just one scoop, it’s among the best protein-per-serving values among its peers (typical protein products provide 25-28 grams per scoop, while some are even less). PRO7’s blend consists of seven different types of protein, all with different absorption rates, which helps ensure that your body is constantly synthesizing protein, building muscle and repairing body tissues. And PRO7 also contains Aminogen, a crucial ingredient for protein digestion and improving nitrogen retention — a big key for the body that helps it stay anabolic.

Let’s say you already knew all this, but happened to see a “similar” product somewhere else — let’s say a big-box store or massive chain outlet. If you’ve spent less money on these products just to save a few bucks, you’ve already wasted your cash.

The truth is, there really ISN’T a “similar” product that you can get for cheap. As the old saying goes: You get what you pay for. Sure, you can sacrifice the quality ingredients in PRO7 and get a no-name whey blend at the same store where you buy diapers, potting soil and toothpaste. Just don’t be surprised if you experience what we like to call “gastrointestinal distress” — which is basically our fancy way of telling you that while you’re at that big-box store picking up your knock-off protein powder, you might as well pick up some new underwear. You’ll need them.

And, let’s face it: Those wannabe brands taste like crap. You make a lot of sacrifices when you decide to clean up your diet. You choke down vegetables you’ve never liked, and make yourself acquire a taste for them – that’s awesome. You opt for a handful of almonds instead of a handful of M&Ms when you want a snack — great decision. But if you’re downing a shake 2-3 times a day, there is absolutely no reason it should be a chore. Not all nasty things are healthy — just because a protein powder costs $35 a bag and tastes like ground-up horse bones mixed with cocoa powder doesn’t mean it’s going to get you results. Likewise, there are three PRO7 flavors — chocolate (tastes like chocolate ice cream when mixed with milk), vanilla and  A BRAND NEW COOKIES AND CREAM flavor — and these shakes don’t taste like you’re drinking pure sadness in liquid form. The PRO7 flavors taste like desserts, but are a true muscle-building beverage. You can’t ask for a better combination.

Cheap, low-quality protein blends are almost entirely made of one or two types of protein, and it’s extremely rarely the type of blend you’d find in a quality product like PRO7. Instead, many cause bloating, indigestion and gas (this is a frequent complaint of beginning users of protein powder, since they start with the cheap stuff as they ease into it). Why bother? You wouldn’t fill up your Jaguar’s gas tank with low-grade unleaded at a 7-11, right? If you value your body as much (and you should!), you’d be wise to follow the same rationale — give it premium fuel, not some knock-off brand.

The results will be worth the investment.

NUTRISHOP’s Fitness Focus: Form Fixes for Success

A lot of attention is given in the weight room to important facets of a workout plan — sets, reps, tempo, etc. And they all matter. But one big factor that too often goes overlooked is form. Keeping strict form can keep your workouts at their most effective and help accelerate your gains.

Improper form is not only a good way to slow your results, but it’s a great way to get injured, too. We’ve highlighted some of the most common form mistakes, whether it’s by athletes trying to handle too much weight or lifters who are simply misinformed.

  • Shrugs: We mentioned these earlier in the week, and it’s worth revisiting. The traps’ development comes from supporting the shoulder blades’ vertical movement — it has nothing to do with rolling the shoulders forward. This is, in fact, a way to hurt both your back and shoulders. Instead, while you do your shrugs, focus solely on pulling your shoulders up to your ears, holding it for a second, and then slowly lowering the weight.

This hurts just to look at. Note the broken rules: Head is down, chest is sunken, butt is drooped. Broken rules = broken back.

  • Deadlifts: If there’s one fantastic way to put yourself out of commission for an extended period of time, it’s by hurting your back, and one of the easiest ways to do it is by using improper form on deadlifts. When done correctly, this lift is a staple of a good program, so you can’t afford to skip them. Rule No. 1 of the deadlift: Always keep your back locked by concentrating on three things — flex your abdominals hard, stick your butt and chest out and keep your head up. By flexing your abs, you’ll support the spine, and you’ll never risk the dreaded “banana back” if you keep your chest and rear end protruded during the lift. You’ll note we don’t say to have a “flat” back — keep it arched, and keep it tight.
  • Bicep curls: Believe it or not, this is probably the most commonly butchered lift in the gym. Instead of doing exactly what the name implies — curling a weight with the biceps — many choose to instead rock the weight up with their hips and torso. Obviously, the benefit is not going to your arms. Use a weight you can handle, keep your elbows pinned slightly forward of your sides, and lift the weight by flexing the upper arm.

What mistake do you see people making in your gym? (There are plenty more examples, after all.) Share them with us at the NUTRISHOP Facebook fan page!

Build an Insane Stack with HEMOVEX

We love Evochem’s new preworkout product, HEMOVEX, as a supplement to help boost your workout performance, and one of our favorite things about it is its creatine delivery system that makes it unlike any other product available.

It’s true that many nitric oxide boosters also have creatine in them, but many times it’s micronized monohydrate in small doses that don’t get absorbed nearly effectively enough. HEMOVEX gets around this with a more modern approach, using creatine magnapower and citrulline nitrate to boost strength and muscular endurance during the workout. We’ll look at these ingredients and show why they’re important, and how you can take advantage of them:

  • Creatine Magnapower: Known to lab nerds as creatine magnesium chelate, a completely different compound form of creatine that delivers the vital supplement to the muscles in a different way. Typically, creatine monohydrate and even Krealkalyn reach the muscles in a very specific pathway, with Krealkalyn being a much more stable option between those two. However, creatine magnapower delivers it via a different pathway. The upshot: You could theoretically stack two forms of creatine at once and increase the amount of it in the muscles, creating more strength and power.
  • Citrulline Nitrate: During the absorption process, it’s converted into nitric oxide in the body. The immediate result is an increased blood flow due to expanded blood vessels, and better delivery of creatine throughout the system. This is one of the most effective vasodilation products around.

What it all means: HEMOVEX’s specialized nitric oxide and creatine blend allows it the potential to be a tremendous stack product with a Krealkalyn or creatine supplement. A particularly ridiculous stack for muscle and strength gain, with an increase in added focus and pump, would be HEMOVEX and CellShock’s N’FUZE.

Remember, typically creatine and Krealkalyn will enter the muscles via specific pathways in the body, but these aren’t the same ones Creatine Magnapower will take. That doesn’t mean, however, that both pathways won’t be used at the same time. Sending creatine to your muscles through two avenues is a great way to ensure you get maximum results from both products
